10 Apple Products Likely to Bid Farewell 2024
As Apple enthusiasts gear up for the highly anticipated annual iPhone event, expected to take place around September 10th, excitement is building for the debut of the iPhone 16, new AirPods, and the latest Apple Watch models. But as Apple rolls out its cutting-edge innovations, it’s time to say goodbye to some of our old favorites. Here’s a rundown of 10 Apple products that are likely to be discontinued next month.
1. iPhone 15 Pro & iPhone 15 Pro Max
Since the introduction of the iPhone XS and XR in 2018, Apple has established a pattern of discontinuing flagship iPhones just a year after their launch. This trend, driven by the company’s desire to push consumers toward newer models, is expected to continue. The iPhone 15 Pro, Apple’s first iPhone featuring a titanium frame, is likely to be phased out. Moreover, with the iPhone 16 Pro models anticipated to sport larger displays, the current 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes may also become a thing of the past. And that striking Blue Titanium color? It might be making its last appearance.
2. iPhone 14 Plus
The iPhone 14 Plus, Apple’s first attempt at an entry-level large iPhone, may also face the chopping block. Despite its impressive 6.7-inch display and long-lasting battery life, its days seem numbered. The reintroduction of the “Plus” branding was a nostalgic nod to the iPhone 8 Plus, but history might repeat itself, much like the fate of the iPhone 13 mini. The iPhone 14 might stick around for a while longer, but the 14 Plus could be on its way out.
3. iPhone 13
Launched in 2021, the iPhone 13 brought notable improvements such as longer battery life, an upgraded camera system, and a reduced notch size. However, as it approaches its third anniversary, it’s now the oldest iPhone available on Apple’s website. If Apple follows its usual pattern, the iPhone 13 will likely be retired, with the iPhone 14 taking its place at the $599 price point until the much-awaited iPhone SE 4 arrives.
4. Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, and SE 2
With rumors swirling about the launch of new Apple Watch models next month, the current lineup could soon be a relic of the past. The Apple Watch Series 10 is expected to feature larger, more efficient displays, a thinner casing, and possibly a new chipset. The Ultra 3 is rumored to receive a minor refresh, while the SE 3 might switch to a plastic casing for a more budget-friendly price. Should these updates come to pass, the Series 9, Ultra 2, and SE 2 could all be discontinued.
5. AirPods 2 and AirPods 3
The venerable AirPods 2 have been around since 2019, serving as a reliable entry-level option. Despite the introduction of the AirPods 3 in 2021, which offered enhanced audio quality and Spatial Audio, the AirPods 2 remained on the market. However, the winds of change are blowing. Next month, we could see the arrival of AirPods 4 in two trims: one replacing the AirPods 2, and another replacing the AirPods 3. The new mid-tier trim is expected to include noise cancellation, which might spell the end for both the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3.
6. iPad mini 6 and iPad 10
Rumors suggest that Apple’s budget-friendly iPads, the iPad mini 6 and iPad 10, are due for a refresh. Despite the iPad 10 receiving a price cut earlier this year, a new model is likely on the horizon. While it’s possible that the iPad 10 might stick around at an even lower price point, the iPad mini’s days appear numbered. Apple has a track record of phasing out older mini models, and the new version is rumored to support Apple Intelligence, offer more storage, and possibly even feature Apple Pencil Pro support.
7. Goodbye to Familiar Faces
With Apple’s relentless drive to innovate, the cycle of introducing new products and discontinuing older ones is inevitable. For loyal fans of the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 14 Plus, or any of the other products mentioned, this might be the last chance to snag them before they disappear from Apple’s shelves.
So, if you’ve had your eye on any of these soon-to-be-retired devices, now might be the time to act. The countdown to September has begun, and with it, the end of an era for some of Apple’s beloved products.
